ITINERARY
This Itinerary is subject to change as with any landscape photography adventure weather plays an important role in our shoots.
-
Day 1 – Meet in Durango, CO: We’ll meet at 10 AM in Durango, CO, and begin with visits to an Impressionist art museum and a local history museum. These stops set the stage for developing concepts rooted in the region’s history and in the traditions of great painters. We then travel to our retreat base in Ridgway, where our first classroom session focuses on concept development and planning. The day closes with a field study in a mountain meadow, where history and landscape combine to inspire our first images.
-
Day 2 –Colors & Harmonies: The morning begins with a classroom session on color theory, followed by a hands-on exercise to strengthen these ideas. After lunch we continue with a discussion on visual pathways. In the evening we move into the field for a study of light and color at a dramatic waterfall dotted by autumn tones.
-
Day 3 – Storytelling in Aspens: We rise early for a sunrise shoot in aspen groves tucked against rocky peaks, applying the concepts we’ve developed so far. After breakfast we return to base for an editing session and peer review of images. Then head out again to capture golden aspens mirrored in a quiet beaver pond.
-
Day 4 – Refining Vision: Another early morning takes us to a grove of uniquely curved aspens, a rare opportunity to create images filled with character. After breakfast we continue with editing sessions, refining ideas and shaping them into finished works. The day ends with a sunset study from a vantage point overlooking Mt. Sneffels, one of the region’s most iconic views.
-
Day 5 – Reflection & Departure: The retreat ends with a relaxed morning, there will be time for questions, critiques, and reflection before departure at 10 AM.
