DIFFICULTY LEVEL
This photography workshop is open to all experience levels, from beginner to advanced all are welcome.

HIKING
This workshop will require moderate hiking (no more than 3 miles) through Rocky, sandy or steep terrain.

COLOR THEORY
Learn color theory as painters understood it. Capturing Hue, tone, mood and harmony amongst the autumn colors

COMPOSITION
Compose your frame with intention and learn the visual structure that guided master painters long before photos.

LIGHT STUDY
Harness the mood shaping power of light,. Using techniques like chiaroscuro or the impressionist glow.

STORYTELLING
Tell a story that resonates and create images that stir more feeling, not image that just follow the rules.
ITINERARY
This Itinerary is subject to change as with any landscape photography adventure weather plays an important role in our shoots.

Day 1 – Arrival in Phoenix: We’ll meet at 10 AM in Phoenix and begin with a visit to an art museum to draw inspiration from the great painters and sculptors who shaped the way we see light and form. Next we travel to our retreat base in Sedona. The evening is dedicated to a classroom sessions discussing concept development and color theory, laying the foundation for the work ahead.

Day 2 – Color and Concepts: At sunrise we explore the fall colors on one of the most enchanting hikes in Sedona, practicing how to see and capture natural color harmonies. After is a classroom session on building visual pathways and share a peer review of raw images. Sunset is capture at an Iconic barn with the towering cathedral rocks as a backdrop, a place to bring developed concepts to life.

Day 3 – Storytelling in Stone: Staring with a sunrise study at a dramatic natural bridge, using the concepts developed earlier in the retreat.The afternoon is spent editing to refine those ideas into finished works. Evening takes us to the desert pools and cacti at the base of the cathedral rocks where light and reflection shape the closing images of the day.

Day 4 – Light in the Landscape: We return to Phoenix to settle into our next retreat base. Then jumping into a classroom session on light and how it directs emotion in an image. Our final field study takes us into the wilderness, where a cluster of jagged peaks becomes our subject as changing light transforms the scene.

Day 5 – Departure: The retreat ends with a relaxed morning at the Airbnb, leaving space for questions, feedback & reflection before departure at 10 AM.

NEAREST AIRPORT
You will want to fly into
PHOENIX AIRPORT, we suggest you arrive the day before.

MEETING LOCATION
We will meet in Phoenix at 10am local time, to tour the Phoenix Art Museum.

Meals will often be on the go as we chase light, you will be responsible for your own meals and snacks.
